Modern dünyada bilgiye erişim hızı, iş süreçlerinin ve günlük yaşamın en kritik dinamiklerinden biri haline gelmiştir. İnternet dünyasının görünmeyen kahramanları ise verileri milisaniyeler içinde bir noktadan diğerine taşıyan fiziksel ağ kablolarıdır. Bu ağ kabloları siber dünyada genel olarak Category (Kategori) kelimesinin kısaltması olan "Cat" ismiyle anılmaktadır. Zaman içerisinde veri hızı ihtiyaçlarının artması, cat kabloları teknolojisinde de çok ciddi evrimleri beraberinde getirmiştir. Günümüzde sadece veri taşımakla kalmayan bu kablolar, aynı zamanda bağlı oldukları cihazlara elektrik enerjisi sağlama yeteneğine de kavuşmuştur.

Cat Kabloları Nedir ve Yapısal Özellikleri Nelerdir?

Ağ mimarilerinde veri iletimini sağlayan bükümlü bakır tel çiftlerinden oluşan kablolara cat kabloları denir. Bu kabloların içerisinde genellikle sekiz adet bakır tel bulunur ve bu teller birbirine ikili gruplar halinde burulmuştur. Bakır tellerin birbirine burulmasının (twisted pair) çok kritik bir siber ve fiziksel sebebi vardır: Elektromanyetik etkileşimi (Crosstalk) ve dış sinyal gürültülerini en aza indirmek. Bakır teller ne kadar sık ve düzenli burulursa, kablonun veri taşıma kapasitesi ve sinyal kalitesi o kadar yüksek olur.

Piyasada bulunan farklı cat kabloları kendi aralarında yalıtım standartlarına göre de ayrılır:

UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair):

Herhangi bir folyo koruması olmayan, en yaygın ve esnek kablo türüdür. Ev ve ofis içi kısa mesafelerde tercih edilir.

FTP (Foiled Twisted Pair):

Dış kılıfın altında tüm tel çiftlerini saran tek bir alüminyum folyo bulunur. Elektromanyetik dalgalara karşı daha dayanıklıdır.

STP (Shielded Twisted Pair):

Her bir burulmuş tel çifti ayrı ayrı alüminyum folyo ile kaplanmıştır. Endüstriyel alanlarda, yüksek parazit içeren ortamlarda tercih edilen en dayanıklı cat kabloları modellerindendir.

Cat1, Cat2, Cat3 ve Cat4 DönemiBu eski nesil kablolar, internetin emekleme dönemine aittir. Cat1 ve Cat2 sadece analog telefon hatlarında ses iletimi için kullanılmıştır. AWG numarası küçüldükçe tel kalınlaşır. Özellikle elektrik iletimi (PoE) planlanan ağlarda daha kalın bakır tellere sahip (örneğin 23AWG) kaliteli cat kabloları seçilmelidir.
